This article delineates in an essayistic manner the risen challenges in the field of education and care. According to ongoing specialist discussions, the latter can only be managed within the frame of a communally coordinated inter-institutional cooperation between the main actors, namely schools, children and youth welfare services, health promotion, employment promotion, and social safety systems. Although regulative, structural and professional preconditions are missing, backing communally coordinated networks seems to be at the moment the one and only alternative, which is reflected in a peculiar mélange of creative optimism and disenchantment on the ground. “The path results from going” – this may be the handiest description of the current situation.
