Abstract

Supporting and challenging students in a way that allows them to unfold their individual potential is one of the most important tasks of Germany‘s education system. But how can this task be accomplished? That is a highly relevant question for the inclusive promotion of students’ talents in different subjects. To contribute to answering this question, the Concept of adaptive learning environments is applied to English foreign language teaching in this article and illustrated with the example of a podcast project. Since an adaptive learning Environment also requires a different approach to assessing and evaluating students’ achievements, this article additionally provides insights into a dialogue-based assessment system with portfolios, which has been tested at an award-winning school in Germany.
