Abstract
This article provides an overview of the current state of research on giftedness and talent development in the context of historical developments and future perspectives from the view of educational science. It begins by outlining psychological concepts of intelligence and models of giftedness and discusses educational and social areas of tension in research on giftedness and talent development, for example in the context of inclusive gifted education and educational equity. In addition, future-oriented perspectives for a reorientation of research on giftedness and talent development are explained with transformative gifted education and sustainable talent development.
