Abstract
Anti-Semitic statements are widespread – also in the school context. Teachers have the task of recognising and reacting appropriately to anti-Semitic statements made by students. This study therefore examines teachers’ orientations in dealing with anti-Semitic statements by students and contributes to democracy education in schools. The central question is which mode teachers choose when confronted with anti-Semitic statements? The methodology of this study is based on the qualitative-reconstructive research paradigm. The results show that teachers cover a wide spectrum of orientations when dealing with anti-Semitism, ranging from suspended, restrictive, socially normalized and situational-related. The article presents the results of the study and traces the potential of the results for an education of democratic values among students.
