This paper presents the necessity of a greater reception and discussion of interdisciplinary and international interrelations in comparative research and discusses Wellgraf’s approach of ethnography as critique. It focuses on the conditions of knowledge production. This paper argues that in doing research on education (Erziehung und Bildung) in Africa, interdisciplinary and international linkages of research (bodies) to the field of education (Erziehung und Bildung) in and ‘beyond’ African contexts should be considered to a greater extend. A critical acknowledgment of existing research (bodies) is important to develop forms and practices of comparative education research that are sustainable. A research approach that combines both aspects is useful to improve the conditions of knowledge production and to help the realisation of social and cognitive justice. This contribution suggests that the here introduced approach has potential for the analysis of global crises and transformations (as well as in German speaking contexts).
