Abstract

Data literacy is playing an increasingly important role in our ‘data society’. This article defines and explains the term data literacy and outlines the relationship between data literacy and evaluation. On the one hand, evaluators must have data literacy, on the other hand, evaluation projects can promote the development of data literacy in organisations. How evaluation projects contribute to this is described and discussed on the basis of three aspects: the identification of data sources, interactive reporting formats and the creation of spaces for data interpretation.
