Abstract
This article is intended to mirror the thirty-year history of Tertium Comparationis by focusing on one of the central comparative units used in Comparative Education. Over the decades, themed editorial issues as well as individual contributions to Tertium Comparationis have repeatedly taken a reflective look at the comparative unit of country and/or nation, but have also – without reference to such discourses – presented comparisons of countries and nations in different approaches. A close and analytical reading of the topics and content reveals clusters of perspectives and associated discourses, some of which appear particularly relevant due to their frequency and intensity. The discourses and clusters found will be presented and verified by normative, critical and innovative approaches that can be found in the journal. Despite constant criticism and alterations to conceptual approaches, country and/or nation remain central categories of Comparative Education.
