The article shows the possibilities that an intersystemic comparison offers for the setting and verification of hypotheses in educational research, orientated towards social science. Subject of the article is the problem of a potential contribution of school to young people’s vocation guidance in two different social systems (France and Soviet Union). The problem is examined with the help of system analysis. The study reveals a common basic phenomenon of school’s (hidden) resistance against contents from industry. This leads to the conclusion that the educational system is relatively autonomous. The subject of a current study analysing a greater number of countries is the potential generalisation of this hypothesis.
