Mäkelä, Marjaana

Marjaana Mäkelä (PhD, Lic. Phil., MA, MSc, Cert. teacher) is a Principal Lecturer at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. She works as a teachers’ trainer and a researcher in the team of Engaging Vocational Pedagogy, with responsibilities in professional teachers’ education, quality management, validation and export of education. Haaga-Helia UAS being part of the European University Ulysseus, Dr Mäkelä contributes to the alliance as a Task Force manager in the work package of lifelong learning and participates in creation of European joint degrees. She is the coordinator of the working group on academic recognition in Ulysseus.
Dr Mäkelä holds extensive experience of projects with a variety of funding mechanisms. In pedagogical development of higher education, her areas of expertise focus most on lifelong and continuous learning, validation processes and work-integrated learning. Her research orientation includes moreover study of pedagogical discourse, consumer studies and hospitality education. She is a member of the Finnish working group of validation in the framework of Nordiskt Nätverk för Vuxnas Lärande.
