Kitzler, Gisela

Gisela Kitzler is Senior Lecturer in Arabic at the University of Vienna, Department of Near Eastern Studies. She holds an MA in Arabic Studies from the University of Vienna. Gisela Kitzler spent three years living and working in Cairo (2012–2015). Her research area is Arabic Dialectology (mainly Egyptian Arabic) and Arabic Popular Culture. She is currently working on her PhD project on Egyptian šaʕbi- and mahraganāt-music, focusing on discourses in the song lyrics, as well as the controversial discourse on these musical genres in Egypt.
