Abstract

This exploratory quantitative study addresses the research gap regarding the Global South’s perspectives on North-South school partnerships. Specifically, this article focuses on the expectations of Tanzanian school principals and teachers regarding learning from and with each other in North-South school partnerships, which where explored through questionnaires. In doing so, the article is theoretically linked to global learning discourses. The study shows that the respondents identified certain subject areas in which one side can learn more from the other, while they also see great potential for mutual learning, particularly in the area of civic education. The results are then discussed with regard to the possibilities and preconditions for promoting democratic education in and through North-South school partnerships despite the different contextual conditions.
