Abstract

The world is undergoing fundamental processes of change that are happening faster than the global community feared and which are to be countered by a ‘Great Transformation’ in the sense of sustainable development. To make this possible, the global community’s transformation agenda focuses on cultural change through mindfulness, participation and (self-)commitment. This is to be promoted through cosmopolitan change agents and educational efforts. In order to be able to adjust one’s own position in a world with others for the survivability of planet Earth, people as potential change agents need sharpened options for reflection that can contribute to transformation through a change of perspective. The associated challenges of hoped-for and expected changes or effects are described from an educational perspective. Global Citizenship Education as a conceptual offer and Nonviolent Communication as a method and attitude are examined for their associated potential.
