Abstract

This article aims to outline which methodical challenges are related with the participation of development cooperation countries in international large-scale assessment studies. Starting point is a detailed analysis and description which development cooperation countries participated how often in which cycles in TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and in PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment). Furthermore, also the role of regional and national assessment studies in relation to the prominent international large-scale assessments is reflected with view to quality development of educational systems in development cooperation countries.
