Abstract
In praxeological discourses competence is relative to a social context. This leads to the question, how competences can be evaluated beyond the practice they are produced by – and therefore enrich a discourse about competence. The documentary method of evaluation provides first indications, but also, due to the understanding of evaluation, limitations which are, however, not found in research practice. The difference between theory and practice provides answers on how praxeological evaluation could be designed. The explication of Referenzrahmen is of crucial relevance. On the one hand, Referenzrahmen need to be external to the practice which is to be evaluated, on the other hand, they need to be practical, though they can evaluatively seize social practice beyond its own logic.
