Abstract

This paper presents the evaluative accompaniment in the Universitätskolleg Hamburg with a focus on the two dimensions of the utility: of evaluation results and of the evaluation process. Based on the work of Saunders (2011, 2012), the possibility of creating utility lies in the participative manner professional evaluators design the accompanying process. Following some theoretical considerations concerning the utility of evaluations, it will be shown how the participatory evaluation strategy at the Universitätskolleg Hamburg has succeeded in generating diverse results for ‘utility of findings’ and ‘process utility’, and which challenges have been considered. The strategy of accompaniment based on the practical participatory evaluation approach proves to be particularly suitable for generating individual and project-related insights from the process and thus increasing the applicability of the results. The organizational possibilities for using the following findings are limited.
