School Supervisors’ Perspectives on the Implementation of the All-day School Reform in Germany

Abstract
Although counselling by school supervisors is explicitly required for school development processes in many school laws, its role in the implementation of system-wide educational innovations and especially of the all-day school reform has not yet been examined. As part of the project “Beratende Schulaufsicht” (BeSa) twelve school supervisors from Germany were interviewed about their perspectives on the introduction of all-day schools and their role in this process. The data, which was analyzed using qualitative content analysis, shows, among other findings, that school supervisors believe that predominantly school principals are responsible for successfully implementing the all-day school reform.
