Abstract

An extended internship during teacher training provides a comprehensive insight into the professional requirements of the teaching profession and can stimulate career choice reflection. The longitudinal study presents results on the question of whether pre-service students (N = 167) reflect on their career choice decision during a practical school experience. In addition, the teacher students were asked in an open-answer format for reasons regarding their changed or stable career choice certainty. Besides students had to evaluate different sources that might strengthen their career choice certainty. A comparison of the answers between students who are certain and those who are uncertain after the practicum shows statistically significant differences that are substantial.
