Abstract

The immigrants of the first generation differ systematically from native Germans in their social background and their level of education. The second generation of immigrants is mainly characterized by great ethnic differences with regard to aspects of structural and cultural integration. The main barrier which is not yet overcome is the competent mastering of the German language. If this barrier is overcome, the strong educational aspirations of this immigrant group take effect.
