Abstract

Language education across the curriculum is presented as a complex concept for the development of those educational language capacities, which are necessary for academic achievement. The concept comprises three dimensions: the comprehensiveness of language education along the educational biography, the comprehensiveness of language education across the curriculum, as well as the connection between classroom and additional language learning opportunities, and including parents and families, and the comprehensiveness between the learners’ different languages and the general and the educational language registers. The development of language education across the curriculum unavoidably involves schools as educational institutions all in all.
