Abstract

The article deals with the situation of vocational orientation for students from secondary modern schools, middle and comprehensive schools at the beginning of the 8th grade. The objective is to contribute an empirically profound analysis of the conditions of career preparation and decision-making. The vocational aspirations and career plans of the adolescents will be reconstructed on the basis of a standardised survey among students. It will be shown how the initial situations of the vocational preparation and choices diverge in dependence on types of schools, school areas and individual student characteristics.
