The article gives an overview of the topic of migration. In addition to a general characterization of the phenomenon of migration the issue of integration of immigrants is discussed. In this context, the outline of the still readable study of insiders and outsiders of Elias and Scotson occupies a larger scale. The text concludes with a presentation of current global migration movements and the economic utilization of migration.
