Abstract

This paper makes an argument for a differentiation between three dimensions of education: In the dimension of behavior, and following Baron Knigge, education means securing the expectability of behavior for others, in the dimension of competences, and that means: in the dimensions of the debate on PISA, it means guaranteeing a minimum of formation and cultivating the learning aptitude, and in the social dimension, it means the capacity to act in one’s own culture. On this note, education allows self-reliant partaking in society and culture und the ability to construct one’s lifetime as learning biography.
