Boys’ education and work with boys are increasingly defining the educational debate. This debate is also being conducted against a background where teachers, social education workers and gender representatives find themselves faced with situations for which they frequently have no action strategies or only insufficient discretion to act.

School performance tests have shown that boys do less well than girls, speech impediments, reading and writing difficulties and behavioural disorders are more frequently encountered among boys or even that boys more frequently drop out of school than girls.

The authors are attempting to counteract this deficit with the present publication, which elaborates the current position of boys’ education and of work with boys in nine European countries to be conducted with reference to the whole of Europe. May everyone who is interested in issues of boys’ education and of work with boys and/or are concerned with these issues find this publication of interest.
