Sílvia Portugal has a PhD in Sociology. She is Assistant Professor at the School of Economics and Researcher at the Center of Social Studies – University of Coimbra. Her research discusses the relations between formal and informal care, using network analysis. She’s been studying Portuguese social welfare system, giving special focus to women’s work. Her more recent interests and research focus on the theme of disability and mental illness. Recent book: “Families and Social Networks. Strong ties in social welfare” (2014).
