Abstract

Colombia is currently at a crucial crossroads with opportunities to deepen the peace process in the violence-torn country. The country’s current government sees education as playing a central role in consolidating peace. The article argues that this requires a minimum social consensus on the goals, methods and content of political education. To this end, it discusses the possibilities and limits of transferability of political education concepts and especially the Beutelsbach Consensus, highlighting three structural challenges: 1) the great diversity of the population, 2) the extreme social inequalities, and 3) the ongoing violence.
