Abstract

In Hamburg, the social index builds the foundation for differentiated resource allocations to schools. In 2021, the social index for schools in Hamburg was for the first time calculated solely on the base of data from school statistics. In the present article, we outline the reasons for the change in techniques, the criteria for the choice of variables as well as the calculation method. The model with eight variables shows high fit indices and high correlations to the established index. In the second part of the article, we illustrate that the new index produces the same high correlations to performance data as the previous one.
