Abstract

The Conference of Ministers of Education (KMK) as the arena for education policy has historically grown structural weaknesses. Th e new Commission for the Development of the KMK holds a chance for improved control and cooperation if the analysis assignment is not too narrowly defined. The analysis needs to question the underlying structure, which forces three departments into a single conference of ministers. Further necessary questions concern the work efficiency of the KMK administrative office, the strengthening of the political actors and the design of the federal-state relationships in the light of recent experiences such as the corona pandemic.
