This article would like to present a relatively new topic, which has received little attention so far. It deals with the creation of indigenous universities in Latin America, a phenomenon, which can be observed globally since the 1960s. The main idea of this article is not to explain the history of origins of indigenous universities or to answer the question whether these universities support an intercultural dialogue. This article would rather like to give a first insight into this topic for a German-speaking community.
