Abstract

School awards have become an important instrument for school development. The analysis of the program of The German School Award [“Deutscher Schulpreis”] shows that awarding the ‘best schools’ aims at a system of best practice for other schools. The hypothesis is that this best practice strategy contributes to a rationalization of the school development with corresponding effects of economization.
